PREFACE

The Legal Division under the Department of Industrial Relations was established in 2004. To facilitate the deployment activities of the Division, it was divided into three units, which have the following respective functions:

• Investigation and Enforcement Unit The unit is headed by a Chief Assistant Director (S44), and having role to carry out investigations for the offences committed under the Industrial Relations Act 1967 for the purpose of prosecution.

• Judicial Review Unit and Law The unit is headed by a Federal Counsel (Legal Advisory Department) (L44), having role to obtain information and prepare a report for a judicial review application is accepted to be sent to Attorney General.

• Analysis Unit Award Analysis Unit Award, which is also headed by the Chief Assistant Director (S44) is to have a role in analyzing the award and court decisions for reference, improvement and policy formulation Department OBJECTIVES Enforcing and monitoring laws in order to strengthen the implementation of the Department's functions in the effort to maintain industrial harmony between employers, employees and trade unions.
