Objectives of the DIRM

The Department of Industrial Relations Malaysia was established with the aim of fostering and maintaining positive and harmonious relations between employers, employees, and their trade unions to create a peaceful and stable industrial relations environment within the country.

Functions of the DIRM

To monitor industrial relations developments and trends within the country to assist the government in reviewing the National Industrial Relations Policy and the National Labour Policy from time to time.

Coordinating relations between employees' organizations to foster and maintain tripartite cooperation between the government, employers, and employees in the field of industrial relations.

To encourage and assist in collective bargaining and joint consultation at the workplace to promote the practice of self-governance in industry and the concept of 'musyawarah' (consultation).

Providing advisory services to employers, employees, employers' organizations, and employees' organizations to ensure good and healthy industrial relations practices.

Providing conciliation services to prevent and resolve industrial disputes and industrial actions.

Conciliating disputes arising from representations by employees for reinstatement to their former employment.

Assisting employees in resolving issues arising from unfair labor practices by their employers.

Handling claims for recognition by trade unions.
